Electronic Reference Room: Rules and Regulations

  1. Electronic Reference Room (ERR) services and facilities should be used by UPM students and staffs only.
  2. Internet access are limited to two hours per day for each user, where each usage is limited to one hour only.
  3. Use of internet PCs is to be primarily for research.
  4. User may send or receive web based e-mail (electronic mail) using the library's internet access computers.
  5. User are not allowed to browse pornographic or sensitive website or use of messenger service or chatting.
  6. No more than two people are allowed at the same PC at one time.
  7. While respecting individual user’s right to privacy, Library staff reserves the right to monitor use of internet workstations to ensure compliance with this policy. 
  8. The library is not responsible for the security of the exchange of information or transactions performed on the Internet.
  9. PSAS staff will help provide assistance if necessary. 
  10. User are not allowed to detach/change computer peripherals.
  11. The user may not use his/her own software programs on the internet access computers. This will help prevent computer viruses.  
  12. Copyright law prohibits the unauthorized reproduction or distribution of copyrighted materials. Any responsibility for consequences arising from copyright infringement or any other illegal use lies with the user.
  13. Patrons are required to produce their library cards when signing up for computer use.
  14. Wrongdoings or breaking the above rules/general rules of the Library may result in one of the following:

    •    Suspension from using Electronic Reference Room services.

    •    Suspension of library membership for 4 weeks.

    •    Suspension of library membership for 8 weeks for the second offence.

    •    Suspension of library membership for 1 semester for following offence.

    •    Fines not more than RM200.00.

    •    Report to Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni).
